The World s International Business Environment And...

The trend I have chosen is the Internet, anywhere, anytime. I believe it is very relevant in today’s international business environment and affects everyone in the global economy in some-way. In 1957 when the then Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first man-made satellite. The Cold War was at its peak, and the United States and the Soviet Union considered each other enemies. President Dwight D. Eisenhower created the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in 1958 as a direct response to Sputnik s launch. In the 1950s, computers had a fraction of the power and processing ability you can find in a modern PC and were so large that devices filled entire rooms. Many computers could only read magnetic tape or punch cards, and there was no way to network computers together. ARPA aimed to change this by enlisting the help of the company BBN, to create a computer network. This network connected four computers running on four different operating systems and was called ARPANET. In 1990, Tim Berners-Lee developed a system designed to simplify navigation on the Internet. Over time, this system became known as the World Wide Web. It didn t take long for some people to mistakenly identify the Internet and the Web as the same thing. The Internet is a global interconnection of computer networks where as the World Wide Web is a way to navigate this massive network. By using the World Wide Web, the Internet became much more accessible. Today, the Internet is more complex than ever.
